ANNUAL "THINK TANK" ON MAY 14

On Friday, May
14 Operation ABLE of Michigan will host the 8th Annual "Think Tank"
from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn.
Sponsored by the
Michigan Department of Community
Health Office of Services to the Aging, this year's session will
focus on
"Retirement Income – Intergenerational
Comparisons of Wealth and Future Income"
and will feature a presentation by
Alicia Puente Cackley, Ph.D.,
Assistant Director, Education, Workforce and Income Security
United States General Accounting Office.
Dr.
Cackley will discuss the reasons why there is a concern about future
retirement income of current workers, comparisons of wealth holdings
between Boomers and Xers and simulations of retirement income and the
impact of changes to Social Security. Copies of the report
will be available to participants.
Roundtable
discussions on the impact of the report for human resources
professionals, facilitated by Toni
Knechtges, SPHR, will follow, discussion questions will include:

What can you do to encourage
Generation X and Y employees to invest in their future income
requirements balancing pension, personal savings and Social Security?

How can you assist/should
you assist Baby Boomers move to a “retirement” mindset?
-
How do you combat the “brain
drain” of experienced staff leaving the workforce?
Thanks to the

is no charge for this program, which has been approved for 2.75 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the
Human Resource Certification
Institute (HRCI).

"ABILITY IS AGELESS" JOB FAIR |
The “Ability is
Ageless" Job Fair that was held on March 31 attracted 1,975 job
seekers, an all-time record for this event. On hand to meet
with them were representatives of 36 employers recruiting for a wide
range of positions in finance, health care, customer service,
retail, sales and marketing.
The successful event was featured
in
the next day's edition of The Detroit News, along with
comments from Dan Essad, human resources senior manager at Plante
Moran, who noted he met with a number of prospects for the 30 - 40
position openings in the firm's Michigan, Ohio and Illinois offices.
